Terms of Service
Last updated October 7, 2026
Draft. These Terms are under legal review and may change before the app launches.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and [COMPANY] (“Tribz”, “we”, “us”) covering the Tribz mobile app and related services (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who can use Tribz
You must be at least [13 / 16 / 18] years old to use Tribz. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed these Terms and permits you to use the Service. You may not use Tribz if we have previously suspended or removed your account.
2. Your account
You sign in with Apple, Google, or an email address through our authentication provider, Clerk. You are responsible for keeping your device and sign-in method secure and for all activity on your account. Tell us at [CONTACT EMAIL] right away if you believe your account has been compromised.
Your username and display name must not impersonate another person, contain hateful or sexual language, or infringe anyone else’s rights. We may reclaim or change a username that breaks these rules.
3. What Tribz is
Tribz lets you join a team (a “tribe”), take part in challenges made up of steps, and share posts, comments and messages with other players. Steps may ask you to answer a question, visit a real-world location, or scan a QR code. Some challenges end with a reveal, a perk, or a pass that can be redeemed with a partner venue.
Challenges are scheduled by us and start and end at times we set. Turns rotate between teammates and a turn may be skipped or passed automatically if it is not taken within the time shown in the app. We may change, pause, or remove any challenge, step, perk, or feature at any time.
4. Challenges, answers, and fair play
Answers you submit may be checked by an automated system, including an AI model, and by comparing them with answers we have authored. Our decision on whether a step is complete is final. You agree not to:
- Share answers, locations, or QR codes for steps your tribe has not reached
- Spoof your device location or otherwise fake being at a place
- Copy, photograph, or redistribute QR codes placed at partner venues
- Use bots, scripts, or multiple accounts to gain an advantage
- Try to manipulate the automated answer checker with instructions, code, or prompt text
We may remove progress, void a result, or suspend accounts involved in cheating.
5. Perks and passes
A perk is an offer from a partner venue unlocked by finishing a challenge. A pass is the digital ticket in the app that a venue scans to honor the perk. Perks are provided by the venue, not by us. Each pass is valid only for the window shown on it, is for one use, and has no cash value. We do not guarantee that a venue will honor a perk and we are not responsible for the goods or services a venue provides. Passes may not be sold or transferred.
6. Location and camera
Location steps use your device’s location to confirm you are within the challenge area. Tribz only reads your location while you are using the app on a location step, and it is not stored as a history of where you have been. QR steps use your camera to read a code; images are not saved. You can turn either permission off in your device settings, but location and QR steps will not work without them.
Play safely. Obey traffic laws, respect private property and venue rules, and do not play while driving. Challenges happen in the real world and you take part at your own risk.
7. Your content
You keep ownership of the posts, photos, comments, messages, profile details and other content you share (“Your Content”). You grant Tribz a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute Your Content as needed to run and promote the Service, including showing it to other players in feeds, tribes and profiles. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content others have already shared or that we must keep for legal reasons.
You are responsible for Your Content. You confirm you have the right to share it and that it does not break the rules below.
8. Community rules
Do not post or send anything that is:
- Harassing, bullying, threatening, or hateful
- Sexually explicit, or sexualizes minors in any way
- Violent, or encourages self-harm
- Spam, scams, or unauthorized advertising
- Someone else’s private information, or content that infringes copyright or trademark
- Illegal, or that encourages illegal activity
You can report any post, comment, message, or user from inside the app, and you can block users. We review reports and may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or terminate accounts, with or without notice. We are not obliged to monitor content but may do so.
9. Challenge content and intellectual property
The Service, including challenges, clues, artwork, the Tribz name and logo, and all software, belongs to Tribz or our licensors and is protected by copyright and trademark law. We give you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, scrape, or resell any part of the Service, or republish challenge content outside the app.
10. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party providers for sign-in (Clerk, Apple, Google), hosting, video, push notifications, and crash reporting. Their terms apply to their services. Partner venues that offer perks are independent businesses. Links to their sites or services are provided for convenience and we are not responsible for them.
11. Payments
Tribz is currently free. If we introduce paid features, we will post pricing and payment terms before you are charged.
12. Ending your account
You can delete your account from Settings in the app. Your profile, posts, comments and tribe memberships are permanently deleted within 30 days of your request. We may suspend or terminate your account if you break these Terms, create risk for other players or partners, or if we discontinue the Service. Sections 7 through 16 survive termination.
13. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of challenge content, availability of perks, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. Automated answer checking may make mistakes.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tribz and its officers, employees, partners and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service, your participation in any challenge, or the acts of any venue or other player. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of USD 100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
15. Indemnity
You agree to defend and indemnify Tribz against claims, damages and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from Your Content, your breach of these Terms, or your conduct during a challenge.
16. Disputes and governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of [STATE], without regard to conflict-of-law rules. [Option A: Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in [COUNTY, STATE], and you consent to their jurisdiction.] [Option B: Any dispute will be resolved by binding individual arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, and you waive any right to a jury trial or to participate in a class action. You may opt out of arbitration by emailing [CONTACT EMAIL] within 30 days of first accepting these Terms.]
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material we will notify you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the new Terms.
18. Apple and Google
These Terms are between you and Tribz, not Apple or Google. Apple and Google have no obligation to provide support or maintenance for the app and are not responsible for any claims about it. Apple and Google are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
